For the juniors information, Mrs NC Koh was the our teacher in charge for 26 years and Mr Shi has been our instructor for as long as he's been here. 26 years as well i think. Mrs Koh was the one who started the cca guitar ensemble. SO PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT hold anything against her, despite her constant nags and occasional unreasonable ways of doing stuff. Be glad that she's here because without her there's no Anglican High Guitar ensemble. & even there is, Im not so sure if it will be so successful as what it is now.

hey! it's over! HANDOVER! there's realli lots of 舍不得 , lots of joy, lots of fond memories and more that guitar ensemble have left for me...i believe it's e same to everyone too! im really really happy to have spent my last yr in guitar ensemble so meaningful and enjoyable...nothing can replace the memories and the experience being the president of ahguitar....im really proud of evrthing....all my juniors and every single moment we've spent together.....
the sweat and effort realli paid off...and im sure ahguitar will not just stop at where it is....because i know u guys are capable to continue our ahguitar spirit to play hard and fun for more achievements in the years ahead....right?

Hello guys!!! And gals, of course, hehee. Sorry I couldn't make it to the handover yesterday - I was down with this super high fever and very bad headache. I thought I could recover by Friday but argh. Anyway, I pretty much know the 2007-2008 comm from Clara's blog already! Can anyone change the 2006-2007 comm at the side to that? :D


My main motive here today (please tell me I sound like Dr. Boon, then I can fulfill one of my life ambitions *coughs*) is to thank you guys for being such a wonderful bunch of people for the past 3 and a half years I've been in ahguitar. I haven't regretted a single moment since I entered guitar, and I won't ever in the future. It's been full of ups and downs, but mostly ups. La Guitarra in 2004 (wow, only the Sec 4s will know what I'm talking about!), SYF in 2005, En Suelo Mas Alto last year and this year's SYF... not to forget the camp last June!! All of those memories--heh, I'm listening to a song called Memories now--will forever be with me, and may they be with you too!

Being in the comm has been an enriching experience. Running up and down Chang Cheng to photostat scores has trained my leg muscles well, ahaha. And of course, the moments with Mr. Shi! How could I forget that? The way he taps his baton on his back. AAH SO CUTE! x) Mrs. Koh may not be with us to the next SYF, so do cherish whatever time we have with her left! As well as Mrs. Tan too, of course.


Well, now that the Sec 4s have officially left ahguitar :( , I wish the Sec 1s to Sec 3s good luck and all the best in managing ahguitar now! I know you guys can do it, basically because you're all Accomplished Honourable Servant Leaders yeah? :D Nah, all of you are capable of bringing ahguitar to greater heights, I know it. I've had my life-changing moments in guitar - from the laughter during Guitara Verpfanden Camp (and camping out in the guitar room during midnight with all the lights off and only two torchlights), the stress during the SYFs and Esplanade concert, the mastering of each and every song we learnt, the crying after the results of this year's SYF, it's all going to stay in my heart forever. So let's bring another life-changing moment during SYF 2009! Sec 2s! Kao ni men le. :D



Sec 3s: Wai Ping & Clara, you guys are the leaders now!! (Geraldine and Huiyi have no more power, sighs) But don't forget, all of you are leaders in your own true right. I have every belief that ahguitar will be stronger and more melodious in your reign. Hoho, sound very archaic leh. I need to stop taking painkillers.

Sec 2s: yay, I remember me being a Sec 2, I loved that year. XD You guys will be leaders for the next SYF! Scared or not? Hehe, don't worry, enjoy your years as you go along. I'm sure they'll be as enjoyable as mine! I can see your dedication to guitar already, so that's all good. I don't think I was as devoted to guitar as you guys when I was Sec 2, seeing how you all go early for junior prac... continue being like that kay! :)

Sec 1s: I don't know you guys that well, but I've heard that your playing is good!! Which is good! (sorry, under medication now, cannot think of nicer adjectives) Continue to jiayou and learn under our dear Lao Xu, and Lambada your way to the top. :)



Of course, after this very long rant, academic responsiblities are still the most important of all (WOOT! Now I do sound like Dr Boon!) so jiayous everyone for studies!
Sec 4s: Prelims are coming in 2 months, and after that is Os... study hard and get into good JCs/polys! :)
Sec 3s: Not much to say, I kind of slacked in Sec 3 too. :D Still be consistent, that's the way to go on the path to Os! o.0 I rhymed...
Sec 2s: Streaming this year!! Don't take it lightly, study hard too! Consider what stream you want to get in, if not like me, want to die liao.
Sec 1s: Honeymoon year... my Sec 1 year was horrible, so never mind, there's still time in Sec 2 to pick up. I'm a very bad senior....


Okay, I think I better stop here, I missed a lot of homework and all. Hope the dinner at Marina Bay was nice, I'm so sad I had to miss it... and a lot of other things. :( Well, on a lighter note, Harry Potter is coming... WOOOOT!

Yeah, im really sorry about it.
Though he's old with a very low voice, but he's really a man of good quality who plays beautiful music alongside with Mr Tar.
Heard that he broke his neck right? and his organs got tored out.
Couldn't be revived could he.
Im sorry about it.
It was indeed a tragic death with no logical reason of his fall.

Hey guys! New blogskin again, mainly because the other one was kind of constricting. Thanks Genevieve for helping me find this :D


OK, so it's almost 2 days to SYF... are you guys confident? I know all of us are tired and dragging ourselves to practice every day after school's a chore but just think! The feeling of getting gold isn't replaceable. It's something that changes your life forever, believe me. It's not about pleasing the school (or Dr Boon), it's not about pleasing Mr Shi or Mrs Koh (but we still have to, I mean)... it's about bringing glory to ahguitar. I think choir got Sustained Achievement before, and are we going to let them win? WE SHALL GET THAT SUSTAINED TOO! Like Mr Shi said, it takes 6 years to do it all over again. Since we've come this far... why not complete the journey? And it'll be so honourable - AHS value yeah! - to be part of the group accomplishing the Sustained Achievement Award... it's something no one can emphasize any further.


Right now our timing's still not very good. Don't rush during Mezza Luna or everything will be screwed. Lover's Theme is supposed to be a slow song, so please play gently and with as much feeling as possible!

EXPRESSION: For 1st song, sway and smile. Some parts require the move back move forth thing, but the most important thing is to make Mr Shi feel at ease. Don't act like stones! If we display good showmanship, it may just determine our Gold/Silver. For the 2nd song, I think it's best to move back and forth... but not like robots, do it naturally. YOU'RE PART OF A COLGATE AD! There's no need to act cool and worry about your image on the SYF stage. Just give it your all.


- Trim fingernails. Keep short ones for the left hand, and file the edges of the right hand fingernails till they're rounded. That way, the quality of the notes will be better.

- Make sure you can pick your pick up on time for tremolo during the 2nd song. Put tape or Blu-tack it to your guitar body. (Mrs Koh's idea)

- When playing tremolo, play near the bridge. 2ND GUITAR: don't play so loud that you overshadow 1st guitar. On the score, it says Mp and then P so follow it.

- If possible, highlight all the phrasing for the 2nd song in your scores. Mr Shi has said phrasing is very important, so if we can't show the judges the difference between our loud and soft, it's not going to guarantee us the gold.

- Make sure guitars are properly tuned and any sticking out guitar strings at the top or bottom are cut off. Anything wrong with your guitar, please tell me! And bring rags for polishing tomorrow!!

- Put Post-its to mark the pages for Mezza and Lover's so that when you go on stage, you know where to open to. Flip the page after the 1st song simultaneously.

- Remember, DO NOT bow before we start playing. Bow only when we finish everything and Mr Shi signals for us to stand. Put guitars on the right foot before and after playing when we stand up. CROSS LEGS! Leave 2 empty seats each at the end of the row for 3rd row.

- IMPORTANT: Start the songs together! There can't be a single guitar playing a note before everyone starts because the hall is VERY BIG. Any note you play, anything you drop can be heard. Also, when Mr Shi gives the signal that the song has ended, press your hand down on the strings to stop reverberating of the strings. Don't let it twang on.


Okies, that turned out very long. 6 AM on Thu! Remember to bring stockings (flesh-coloured), black socks for the guys, costume, shoes, make-up, files, picks, footstools, your guitar and most importantly... YOURSELF and YOUR RADIANT, BEAUTIFUL, STUNNING, GORGEOUS, BLOW-YOUR-MIND-WORTHY SMILES!!! :)

Don't be scared when the time comes. Just remember, we are one ensemble and we're doing it together! LOOK AT MR SHI WHEN THE SONG IS GOING ON so that if tempo goes out, he can control us. He is the most handsome guy in the room!!!! Look at his Goldlion tie and be stunned!

And go to the toilet before boarding the bus. :D

Alumni will be going with us to the Singapore Conference Hall so do them proud! Let's get the gold! Because I know we can do it. It's just a matter of confidence. Pretend you're a rowdy dancer for Mezza, then you're breaking up with someone for Lover's. We're the 14th ensemble and the last one before the 2nd interval, so we MUST MAKE AN IMPRESSION ON THE JUDGES. Who says we can't be as good as RI? Blow them away! Make them remember AHS GE for years to come!

OK, I gtg study Chinese liao. I shall flunk all the tests this week, lol... smile people, and let God guide the way.

My friend, my classmate, Jiahao.
He is from Concert Band and I asked him last week if he was feeling nervous for SYF which is on 10th April, this coming Tuesday.
& he replied, "Nope. Scared for wad. The whole band is going to face this tgt."

So, on thursday, Xiang Yi, Alicia, Clara Koh, Charr, Cheryl and company were walking home from prac. Close to the MRT station, two certain people had the impulse to do the Kallang Wave. Too bad I couldn't click the phone button in time to capture the moment properly, heh. Enjoy. X)

SYF IS COMING!

hey guys! carrie here! well SYF is coming REAL SOON! i know you guys are feeling nervous alr right?! (at least, i hope so! YOU SHOULD BE OK!) well us seniors are very very nervous for you all too! i know you'll heard this alot of times, but really, this year is very crucial because a 3rd consecutive gold will mean a Sustained Achievement Award! you guys will go down in HISTORY! i know alot of you are very sianded by the amount of practices you have a week, but when you guys get the gold (WITH HONOURS MAYBE HAHA!), it'll all be worth it! it's just one shot for the sec3s, the last time for the sec4s, first time for the sec2s, everyone must work together and pia ok! it's not just about one batch working hard, it's about the whole Guitar Ensemble! Just a few more weeks to go, you guys can do it! think about the gold (with honours!) that will belong to AHS GE! you just have to put your heart and soul into playing, and not play the song for the sake of playing! you have to FEEL the song! like for the second song, it's more sad, so you guys can try to think of sad things and relate the song to it, then you guys will be able to play with feeling. and swaying, it has got to come naturally to you! and i know it's very stupid to smile at NOBODY but heck, just do it! anyway i think on the actual day you guys will smile at the audience naturally la haha.

rmb to look at mr shi ok! not stare at his face or what, but at his baton! when he flicks it up and down and left and right, follow his timing hor!

GO AHS GE! you can do it! if CO could, you can too! let AHS be flooded with gold and gold honours! =)

HELLO PEOPLE! Long time no come :) changed the blogskin cuz it's been there since guitar blog started, and I'm putting off zuo wen and decided to give this blog a makeover. Sort of.

Auditions today were freaky! Why did Mr Shi have to make us play in front of everyone! :D Anyone wanna change any more strings? My fingers gonna die liao. All of you guys played nice, don't worry :) SYF is in about a month's time, it IS fast... remember, all hopes are pinned on us getting gold. Sustained Achievement doesn't come every day. I'm sure we can do it! Practise more, especially timing - don't rush, play soft and loud when you're supposed to, go perfect the tremolo (because it's hard and the stupid tape is a hindrance), blah blah. And most importantly, don't pon practice!!! Yay :)

Just for your info, the flowery picks (err... weird) are $0.80 each. The non-flowery ones are $0.60. Pay to Germaine or Clara if you take one. Break a string - 1st string is $1.10, 4th string is $3.50, others not sure. I think around there.

OK, I have nothing much to say. Just that let's not disappoint Mr Shi and all our alumni and whoever is involved, and STRIVE TOWARDS THE JIN! Yeah, no G behind, I checked ok. :D
